Now Following: Budget Bytes

There are many reasons why I like Beth M.’s number-crunching food blog, Budget Bytes:

Number 1: I like being thrifty! Beth does a great job breaking down the real cost of cooking dinner on your own and making you feel good about purchasing ingredients.

Number 2: I love the basics! The “Stock your Kitchen” list, where Beth breaks down all of the important essentials that you need for your kitchen, and what it is going to cost to keep your pantry up-to-date, is one of the best parts of her site. She gives you not only the individual ingredients, but the total cost of all those items put together. Makes putting together a kitchen for beginners seem much less daunting.

Number 3: I love food! While I have not yet sampled any of Beth’s recipes, they are simple, straightforward, and the pictures are beautiful. I’ll update this part once we’ve sampled some of Beth’s posts.

“Play it again, Sam.”

Ricks Cafe 2

For the Casablanca obsessed, those who enjoy good ole fashioned kitsch, and mild, slightly awkward orientalism, Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca, Morocco does exist. Atmosphere is fun, and a bit silly. Not to be taken seriously. Food is just ok. Seafood is overly fishy and portions are not priced to size (too little for too much). For those who are Bogart fanatics, they place the movie on repeat on the upstairs balcony.
